Fielded Systems
AEgis Technologies has
previously worked with the United States Army National Guard in an effort
to establish a maneuver training solution that utilizes existing training
system components while minimizing Life Cycle Contractor Support (LCCS)
costs. Since the requirements of the National Guard are different from
their active counterparts, the focus on the solution was been low-cost,
adequate fidelity, and minimal field support. These are the upgrades that
are a result of that solution:
SIMNET is a large scale
networked simulation system that was developed in the late 1980s by the
United States Army and the Defense Advanced Research Products Agency (DARPA)
as a joint venture. It consists of a fiberglass hull that attempts to
replicate the actual vehicle compartments. Inside are the same guages,
switches, etc. as you would see in the real vehicle. The original system
required two computer racks: one with the visual computer that rendered
all of the scenes and another with the host computer, sound processor,
amplifiers, and all other supporting equipment.
AEgis Technologies has completed the upgrade of two SIMNET simulators (one M1 and one
M2) to run entirely on COTS computer equipment using PC-based video cards.
The entire set of computers fit into one rack and cost much less than
the original equipment. The simulation has been upgraded to use AEgis
Technologies' BattleStorm® reconfigurable
simulation software and has been integrated with MetaVR's Virtual Reality
Scene Generator (VRSGT) visualization software. This solution is much
more cost effective than trying to support equipment that was originally
installed in the 1980s and it provides the customer with a better support
path for any future upgrades.
