Huntsville, Alabama, (January 21, 2010) - AEgis Technologies has built a 3D Database of Haiti and is distributing the database to all government and humanitarian agencies for their continued rescue, relief, and reconstruction efforts.
After the 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti, AEgis Technologies was asked to create the 3D database. Scott Allman, Director of Geospatial Programs, and his team created 3D images of Haiti before and after the destruction. The decision was then made to offer the database for free by distributing it to agencies around the world.
“We tasked the satellites on Friday, January 15, got two good images, and then built the entire city of Port Au Prince in 3D,” Allman said. “A massive landscape like this used to take weeks to build but we were able to do it in one day.”
This is one of the biggest projects Allman’s Geospatial team has ever created. And because of its importance toward Haiti relief efforts, Allman and AEgis Technologies President & CEO Steve Hill felt strongly about giving the imagery away for free.
“We felt it was the right thing to do. And we’re happy that AEgis Technologies can help the people of Haiti in some way,” Allman said.
